Job Description
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Projects – implement the development projects of the farm as outlined in the project Proposal. Meeting deadlines will be very critical for the successful establishment of the new and greenfield farm. The main project activities are:
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) – ensure the EIA for =the Farm is
approved by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). To achieve this, you
will work closely with the Consultants. The whole project implementation is behind
schedule and hinges on the EIA.
Land Clearing and Preparation – ensure land clearing and preparation is well executed by
a contracted company and Sales. The target is to have 65Ha seed maize and 100Ha seed
soyabeans in the 2017/18 season
Irrigation Set Up – ensure the irrigation system is set up as outlined in the project proposal
in readiness for the 2018 winter crops. Irritech has been contracted to undertake this
component of the project. In line with this, ensure the hydrological report by WARMA is
completed and submitted to the company and its recommendations implemented accordingly.
Equipment and Machinery – ensure all the required farm equipment and machinery are
procured expeditiously following the Seed Co Procurement procedures. The list of
equipment and machinery is contained in the project document.
Farm Infrastructure – the farm has currently no any infrastructure. Therefore, you will be
responsible for the construction of all the required staff accommodation, offices, workshop,
storage facilities, roads, fuel station, etc.
Power Supply – ensure the farm has power supply from Zesco. This is critical for the
successful establishment of the irrigation system. Currently, Luano District has no Zesco
power supply and the district authorities are working to have the connection done before the
end of 2017.
Cropping Program – prepare both summer and winter cropping programs in consultation
with the company Operations Manager to achieve set production targets for the
company. All the farming operations shall be carried out with due regard to principles of soil
conservation which contribute to high productivity and growth
Quality Product – ensure the finest quality and genetic purity of parent and certified seed.
Quality Management – actively participate in quality initiatives through direct involvement
in ISO 9001:2008 activities and working on continuous improvement programmes
throughout the processes of the farm.
Planning and Budgeting – prepare farm budgets and cash flows and ensure they are adhered
to
Risk – ensure adequate controls to minimize risk in all the operations of the farm. Take all
the necessary steps to protect or otherwise ensure safety of all monies, property, and other
merchandise of whatever description of the company which shall at any time be under
your charge and control
Inventory and Control – ensure records are neat, up to date and readily available at any time
they are needed. Carryout regular physical inventories and review of farm records to ensure
that all the farm stock is accounted for. Ensure maximum security for the stock.
Human Resources Management – Professionally manage all the farm employees. Uphold
discipline in your team. Set performance standards for the staff. Identify training needs for
your staff and provide an enabling environment.
Legislation – keep abreast of any developments in the agricultural industry and
farming legislation in Zambia and advise Management accordingly. Ensure
that Zambian labour laws pertaining to the industry are adhered to.
Relationship Management – develop sound and cordial relations with both
internal and external stakeholders
Asset Utilisation – ensure optimum and efficient utilization of all assets on the farm
Health and Safety – ensure that all company and Zambian Safety Rules and
Regulations are implemented and that all safety reporting is complied with
Reports – ensure that weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc farm
reports/appraisals are produced.
